Video Summary
Laura Bonanno presents guidelines for the Common Clinical Assessment Tool (CCAT), an optional, free tool designed to make nurse anesthesia student evaluations clearer, more consistent, timely, and secure. Developed in response to concerns about lengthy paper forms, low completion rates, and limited feedback, the tool draws on accreditation standards and professional competencies. Its content was refined through a three-round Delphi process involving program administrators, faculty, clinical educators, and students.

The CCAT organizes competencies into four domains: patient safety and perianesthesia care; knowledge and critical thinking; professional communication and collaboration; and professional role. Preceptors rate students using progression indicators, from safety concerns through proficiency at entry to practice, and can add comments. A safety-concern rating requires an explanation.

The webinar also explains how preceptors complete the evaluation through the secure, browser-based ExactPRISM platform. Preceptors receive a link, assess each competency, review comments, and submit the form; the student and program are then notified.
