The dosing of spinal bupivacaine for cesarean delivery remains a clinical conundrum faced by anesthesia providers when caring for the parturient of short stature.

The ED50 and ED95 of spinal bupivacaine for cesarean delivery has been well described in the literature; however, parturients with extremes of stature have been excluded.

Adequate surgical anesthesia is achieved with appropriate dosing of spinal bupivacaine in parturients of short stature without an increase in adverse outcomes.

Learning Outcomes:

Identify optimal dosing strategies for intrathecal bupivacaine in parturients of short stature undergoing cesarean delivery.
