As maternal obesity rates rise, so do the challenges and risks associated with cesarean deliveries (CD). Increased body mass index (BMI) often leads to longer procedural and anesthesia times, influencing the choice of neuraxial techniques. This course explores the complexities of anesthesia management in obese patients undergoing CD, including the potential need for catheter-based techniques like combined spinal epidurals (CSE) and their associated risks, such as post-dural puncture headaches. By understanding the impact of BMI and related factors on procedural times, anesthesia providers will be better equipped to make informed clinical decisions and select the most appropriate anesthetic techniques for optimal patient outcomes.

Learning Outcomes:

 1. Demonstrate understanding of CD duration and BMI correlation.

 2. Apply evidence-based knowledge  to guide practice management and anesthetic care of the obstetric population.
