Despite growing societal acceptance of cannabis, its federal illegality and associated stigma often hinder patient disclosure during preoperative assessments. This course addresses the challenges anesthesiology professionals face in discussing cannabis use, focusing on the impact of stigma in four key domains: perceived, anticipated, enacted, and internalized. By enhancing their understanding of these barriers, participants will be better equipped to facilitate open conversations and deliver more informed and collaborative patient care.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Evaluate rates and associations of cannabis disclosure and discussion in the U.S. healthcare system, considering stigmatization.

  1. Enhance understanding of cannabis stigmatization experiences, particularly in relation to disclosure and assessment within the U.S. healthcare setting.
