Despite decades of data, the practice of neuromuscular monitoring and reversal seems dictated more by tradition and local practices than by evidence-based medicine. While advancing medical knowledge, new discoveries will continue to challenge long-held beliefs and objective monitoring is the only method of assuring that satisfactory neuromuscular function has been achieved. Quantitative analysis of human physiology is more precise than observation and recent technological improvements in neuromuscular monitoring have given us much to consider. Modern techniques look much different from the past. We now have the capability to provide precision anesthesia - and when we do, everyone wins.

Learning Outcome(s):
  1. Evaluate the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of neuromuscular blocking agents to refine monitoring strategies and enhance patient safety.
  2. Evaluate neuromuscular blocking agents to refine monitoring strategies and enhance patient safety.
  3. Integrate evidence-based practices of neuromuscular monitoring into patient management strategies.
