This course educates the anesthesia provider about substance use disorder basics, the disease model of SUD and the challenges in caring for these patients. It will also increase knowledge and affect practice by refocusing the lens through which anesthesia providers see the SUD patient. Finally, the education informs on common illicit drug interactions and medication assisted drugs effects on anesthesia.

Learning Outcome(s):

1. Develop a professional understanding of how substance use disorder fits into the disease model and apply that understanding to peri-operative care.
2. Identify resources available to the patient with substance use disorder.
3. Identify important drug interactions for illicit drugs and medication assisted therapy drugs.
