Understand the unmet needs for global surgery and anesthesia; status of policy initiatives to promote global anesthesia policy initiatives at the regional and country level; and efforts, barriers and DNP projects related to global anesthesia initiatives.

Learning Outcome(s):
  1. Describe the current status of access to global surgery and anesthesia in upper, middle- and lower-income countries. 
  2. Describe policy initiatives at the United Nations, World Health Organization, regional offices of WHO and countries to improve access to global surgery and anesthesia care.  
  3. Discuss examples of initiatives to increase the global anesthesia workforce.
