This article will discuss strate¬gies to prevent, recognize, and treat substance use disorder within the workplace.

Learning Outcome(s):
  1. Describe strategies to prevent substance use disorder.   
  2. Identify the signs of substance use disorder in the workplace.   
  3. Discuss the importance of reporting an impaired colleague.   
  4. Explain the treatment process for substance use disorder as recommended by the AANA.
  5. List the educational standards of nurse anesthesiology programs for substance use disorder as described by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
